I am pleased to offer a unique collection of individual high quality ceramic and pottery gift ideas for the discerning buyer and collector. A small selection of which you can view on this website. All pieces are individually hand crafted and are produced by Teän Kirby under the name of Teona Pottery. Her studio pottery is situated on the edge of the Severn Sea in Portishead UK. All items are fired to stoneware temperatures and therefore the pots and glazes will not be affected by either frost or dishwashers. Should you not find any ideas that suit your needs, please feel free to send me an email and I will try to meet your requirements.
PERSONAL STATEMENT A brief glance at my CV would reveal the two main interests of my life. The need to include a social and community dimension to my work and my interest in the Arts. Although these two elements have often felt at war with each other, in reviewing my past work I feel that they have both always been present and have guided me. During my work for Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Trust I was responsible for art and craft groups. The Ceramic Group under my guidance built and fired smoke-fire, wood burning and medieval pit kilns. Our work was always on display around the Trust and much acclaimed. The ambitious ‘Sea to Space Water Feature’ appeared in Ceramic Review (Issue 208, July/August 2004). I also helped create The Petherton Artists Group, a group of Artists either working for or using the Mental Health Services. We staged two highly successful exhibitions, which were favourably reviewed by the local Media. Having left the Mental Health Trust, I now feel the need to concentrate more fully on my own work. Though the Community aspect of my life is still reflected in my participation in the Public Art Steering Group at Portishead Marina. A constant theme for me has been to explore the function and form of my work. To play in that area between Art and Craft that so besets Ceramicists! When people ask me things like ‘Could you actually use that as a teapot ?’ I delight in the question - so much of our lives fits into this area! Teän JF Kirby. Teona Pottery
